A packed Circuit Service took place at Bridge Street Church in Andover as we gathered to say farewell and 'thank you' to Deacon Shirley Mackintosh and her husband, Bob.
Representatives from across the Circuit shared in an 'open mic' session to share their appreciation of Deacon Shirley's ministry, initially across the Andover Circuit and latterly in the Kennet & Test Valley Circuit. On many occasions, this has been a shared ministry with Bob. One of the other deacons present commented that, on her first attendance at Diaconal Convocation, Bob had been so involved that she had thought Bob was a Deacon too!
The service was led by the Circuit staff with musical contributions from the organist at Bridge Street, Bill Bowley and the Xpect worship band in which Bob has literally played a principal part.
Shirley and Bob were presented with a cheque and a large teapot (of a style that they had chosen) which it was confirmed would be used to continue the hospitality and welcome which they have shared so generously in this Circuit. They had earlier also received gifts from the churches for which Deacon Shirley had held pastoral charge.
The service was followed by the customary sharing of tea and cake and the encouraging sound of lively conversation!
